In the spirit of collaboration and community enhancement, Newviews Connects proudly partnered with Sentara to host a pivotal Community Care Luncheon this past October. The event was a significant step towards integrating health equity into our educational institutions, gathering community school leaders and health specialists to dialogue and strategize on improving health access and education.
The luncheon was graced with the presence of notable leaders who are at the forefront of education and community development. Tiffany Thomas, the Director of Operations at Partnership for the Future, brought insights from her extensive experience in youth development and education. Karen Castillo Rose, the principal of Henrico High School, shared her firsthand experiences of the challenges and needs within the school system.
Adding a broader perspective, the CEO of Henrico PAL Kenneth Ragland, who also serves as the president for the national PAL board, discussed strategic leadership in educational and community engagement. Troy Kershaw, a Project Manager with the City of Richmond, and Ryan Young, the area's school board representative for Fairfield, both offered valuable governmental and educational insights. Their contributions highlighted the interconnectedness of health equity and educational success.
The dialogue at the luncheon centered around understanding the specific needs of our community's leaders and exploring how Sentara could provide necessary resources to meet these demands. The discussions were enlightening and showcased the critical gaps in health education and access among students and families in our community.
This event was not just a meeting but a melting pot of ideas and solutions geared towards fostering a healthier, more educated community. We were thrilled to hear from our community leaders and to see the tangible pathways through which Sentara could augment their ongoing efforts.
As we wrapped up the event, we spent time reinforcing the mission of Newviews Connects—to create meaningful connections that empower and uplift our neighbors. We are excited to announce that our next educational luncheon, scheduled for November 14, 2024, will extend these conversations to faith-based leaders, continuing to weave stronger community ties and broaden our impact.
This luncheon was a testament to the power of collaboration and the shared vision of a healthier, more equitable future. We look forward to continuing these efforts, expanding our reach, and seeing the long-term benefits of these partnerships flourish within our community.
